What happens in China doesn’t just stay in China.
With unprecedented numbers of Chinese emigrating to other parts of the world, Christians from the mainland are finding new opportunities to serve beyond China’s borders. This significant people movement also presents the challenge of reaching people from China who find themselves separated from their homeland and who are often very open to the Gospel.
One of the highlights of 2025 was participating in the first-ever Global Chinese Diaspora Consultation, held in Toronto last April. This gathering drew Chinese pastors and mission leaders from around the world to reflect on how God is moving among Chinese communities globally. We heard from international student workers in Europe, Chinese missionaries in Africa, pastors of Chinese congregations that are mobilizing to reach refugees in North America, and theologians who offered biblical insights on the diaspora from a Chinese perspective. As my colleague Andrea Lee noted, the consultation was also a meeting of generations, bringing together young believers from China and seasoned pastors with decades of global experience.
ChinaSource’s involvement in the Chinese diaspora speaks to our commitment to nurturing deep roots for a flourishing global church. We seek to foster resilient faith communities as we equip Chinese Christians and global partners through contextual insights, cross-cultural connections, biblically grounded resources, and opportunities for collaboration. We are committed to facilitating intergenerational dialogue by creating platforms where seasoned believers and younger generations can share experiences and learn from one another, cultivating mutual encouragement and discipleship.
This is essential as Chinese believers, both in China and throughout the rapidly growing diaspora, face unique and intensifying pressures that challenge the transmission of faith to younger generations. Many younger believers find themselves caught between multiple worlds, struggling to find communities where they belong.
A Global Voice
There is another way in which what happens in China goes far beyond China.
Through centuries of growth and struggle, China’s church has learned unique and valuable lessons that speak to many of the challenges facing the global church in the 21st century. By amplifying the voice of China’s Christians, ChinaSource shares these lessons with believers worldwide.
In an era of accelerating change, ChinaSource continues its 28-year legacy as the vital connection point between China’s believers and the worldwide Christian community. Advancing the Gospel in this generation requires that God’s people around the globe join hands and work together.
