Unless the Minnesota Twins are playing in the World Series, I’m generally not a baseball fan. That might explain why I am writing a post about this year’s World Series a couple of weeks after the fact!
As we all know by now, the Chicago Cubs won the World Series this year, something they had not done since 1908. I was playing host to friends from Beijing the week they won, and explained the significance to them.
“The last time this team won the championship,” I said, “China still had an emperor.”
At that, they threw back their heads and howled in laughter. They got it!
So, what did Beijing look like the last time the Chicago Cubs won the World Series?
