As part of our ongoing joint lecture series with the US-China Catholic Association (USCCA) and the China Academic Consortium (ERRChina), USCCA will be hosting the spring lecture on March 16. The lecture, titled “The Rise of China and What it Means for the Church” will be given by Fr. Paul Mariani, professor of history at Santa Clara University.

Fr. Mariani will explore the implications of China’s transformation for the church in China and how this has affected relations with the Vatican and the wider Christian community. He will provide an overview of leadership policy in China, then focus on how its current leaders see their “historical mission,” focusing on how this backdrop helps us better understand the developments of the past ten years.

This lecture will be given in-person at Santa Clara University. It is free and open to the public, but registration is required. There is an option for online attendance as well.
